In continuing to feed on your short attention spans the team at 6 Rings wants to grab you for 30 seconds to preview the upcoming the basketball season. Given that we are based in Chicago, the home of the Big Ten Mens Basketball Tournament, we decided to start with the conference that for the past couple of years has been known as the deepest in the country. This year that trend continue as there are legit 8-9 teams with tournament aspirations and not one of them is not Northwestern.
Big Ten Basketball Preview
Illinois: John Groce can coach but I think he might have been a little tipsy off of Champagne. When he decided to build this roster with transfers.
Indiana: Tom had to “Crean” a couple of guys to make way for his freshman class. No bigs & no proven identity but enough talent to make the dance
Iowa: The sleeper pick to win the league. Aaron White and Roy Devyn Marble are all B1G level talents. This team has depth, talent, and experience
Michigan St: Four returning starters, a lottery pick, and two other potential draft picks means high expectations in East Lansing. Final Four contenders!
Michigan: Sophs Mitch McGary and GRob3 need to make a leap for this team to be elite once again. PG Play is a major question after losing Trey Burke
Minnesota: Rick Pitino son Richard Pitino is the new coach in the Land O Lakes. Losing Mbakwe and Rodney Williams graduating means Minny has no bigs.
Nebraska: A new basketball arena & Aussie Freshman Tai Webster are the only thing that matters in Lincoln. This team is improving but still years away
Northwestern: Chris Collins got lucky when Drew Crawford decided to stay in Evanston for his final season. Won’t make the tournament but will upset someone
Ohio State: Aaron Craft is back as well as 3 other starters & 6 of their top 8. Replacing Thomas will be tough but defense will have them at the top.
Penn State: Do they even play Basketball in State College? The Penn St basketball team might not even win the PSAC in which IUP is predicted to win.
Purdue: This team has some potential. They have the second best big man in the league in AJ Hammons. If the Johnson brothers improve NIT is possible
Wisconsin: Wisky will be a bit different this year in that all of its talent is in its guards. Bo Ryan always finishes in the top 4 and will again.
