Two weeks into the 2013 college football season every time at the FBS level has played at least one game. I spent this past Saturday as most Chicago area college football fans do sipping brews, eating deep dish, and utilizing score center (thank you baby jesus for Directv).  This week was new for me in that I found myslef watching games I normally wouldn’t like UAB vs LSU, Tulane vs South Alabama, and Miami of Ohio vs Kentucky. FBS African American coaches now have a combined record of 12-12

Week 1

 Charlie Strong (Louisville)- 2 weeks + 2 cupcakes = 2 blowout victories for Coach Strong and the Cardinals. This week Louisville heads to Lexington to take on archrival Kentucky. Who is only slightly more than a cupcake given they are in a BCS conference but they did lose to Western Kentucky in week 1. We are going to call the wildcats a Muffin. Looking ahead the Cardinals don’t face any ranked teams this season. I think the Louisville athletic department was Glazed and Infused when they came up with this schedule. (2-0)

Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M)- Johnny Football made his first start of the season and the Aggies destroy another inferior opponent. The Aggie offense hung 68 points on Sam Houston St. behind Manziel’s 403 passing yards and 3tds. Much to my dismay Coach Sumlin didn’t have to put young Johnny in his place this week. However the big bad #1 ranked Alabama head to College Station this weekend and the fighting Saban’s have had this game circled all offseason. This is the biggest home game in the last 25 years for Texas A&M so cheers to you Coach Sumlin keep it rolling. (2-0)

David Shaw (Stanford)- David Shaw and Stanford opened their season with a 34-13 win over San Jose St. A little history for you, Stanford legend John Elway father Jack Elway was a head coach at SJSU from 1979-1983. This week brings another moderate foe in the Army Black Knights (1-1)

 James Franklin (Vanderbilt)- Jordan Matthews the best WR you never heard of.  Recorded his second straight game with over 100yds receiving and a touchdown as the Commodores beat the Governors of Austin Peay. No there were no state legislature implications involved with this game. Saturday vandy will take on Mr. Clowney and the South Carolina Game Cocks.  (1-1)

Ron English (Eastern Michigan)- A 45-7 loss to Penn St in State College didn’t lead to Coach English sending the Eagles to the showers early. For the players sake I hope they didn’t go to the showers at all and just used Dude Wipes. The Eagles head to Piscataway, New Jersey this week to face Rutgers. (1-1)

Darrell Hazell (Purdue)- Coach Hazell and the Boilermakers might have the only offense on this worse than South Florida. Even being in the conversation with South Florida offensively means that your team moves down the field at the pace Brady Hoke moves on a treadmill. Which means not at all. Luckily for Coach Hazell Purdue returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to given them a 21-14 win over Indiana St. This week the golden domers come to down. (1-1)

 Curtis Johnson (Tulane)- Nick Montana continued his hot start to the season throwing for 327 yards and 3tds. However the Green Wave failed to convert a 2 pt conversion late in the fourth quarter and loss to South Alabama 41-39. No shame in that game and Curtis Johnson has the Green Wave off to a solid start. This week they face Louisiana Tech in what should be a solid C-USA matchup. (1-1)

Mike London (Virginia) – Normally losing 59-10 would cause several fans to raise an eyebrow to whether they have the right guy at the helm. However when the team you lost to is Oregon and the basically score 50 points every time they play it isn’t as bad. Although my cousin Nate Lyles a former starting safety for the Wahoos wasn’t too happy about them losing that way. Cheer up cuz your boys play VMI this week. (1-1)

 Garrick McGee (UAB)- A 0-2 start was probably the expectation by most people in Birmingham given that the Blazers opened the season with Troy and Lsu. 0-2 is exactly where UAB stands after LSU 56-17 took it to the woodshed. The Blazers should get of the snide this week facing FCS team Northwestern St. (0-2)

Ruffin McNeill (East Carolina)- East Carolina won the C-USA opener against Florida Atlantic 31-13. All is going to plan for Ruffin McNeil as he attempts to lead the Pirates to their second straight east division title. I don’t have any evidence to support this but I think Mike Leach is jealous that his protégé McNeil gets to coach his games in a pirate ship? (2-0)

Willie Taggart (South Florida)- There are 49 strip clubs in Tampa and only 7 hospitals.  That is the same kind of statistic that blows your mind similar to reading that Michigan St D-end Shilique Calhoun outscored South Florida by himself 14-6 en route to a 21-6 win for the Spartans. Head Coach Willie Taggart needs to get the Bulls offense together correctly or the honeymoon will be over before room service knocks on the door. After losing to FCS McNeese St in week 1 a win against Florida Atlantic this weekend is far from a sure thing. (0-2)

Don Treadwell (Miami of Ohio)- If your quarterback state line reads 4/14 for 23 yards. Chances are you are going to get blown out and that is exactly what happened to the Redhawks. Miami lost to Kentucky 41-7 and now and now sit 0-2 on the season with a regional rival Cincinnati. (0-2)
